Abstract
This paper provides a comparative analysis of South Korean protocol and etiquette at key celebrations such as New Year (Seollal), first birthday (Doljanchi) and the tea ceremony (Darye), which differ greatly from the way Western, Chinese and Japanese cultures celebrate these moments. Reviewing both academic and cultural sources, this document presents the distinctive elements that differentiate Korean tradition (marked by Confucianism, hierarchy and symbolism), apart from the points where this culture overlaps with others. The study demonstrates that Korean etiquette is fundamental for the preservation of cultural identity in the context of globalisation.
