Abstract
This thesis investigates the international expansion of retail firms by focusing on El Corte Inglés¿s attempts to enter global markets. It first reviews key theories of internationalization, the Uppsala Model, Born Global theory, Network Theory, and the Eclectic Paradigm,to explain why and how companies expand abroad. Then, using the Five Dimensions framework, it examines El Corte Inglés¿s strategy for choosing markets, allocating resources, adapting its product mix, building partnerships, and managing knowledge transfer. By comparing El Corte Inglés with other major retailers like Inditex and Carrefour, the study identifies strategic differences and best practices. Finally, it offers practical recommendations for retail firms seeking to achieve sustainable international growth.
