Abstract
Given the role and importance of the Delegation for Indigenous Affairs within the Moroccan protectorate during the Republican period, the surveillance of pan-Islamist movements within countries that practised the Muslim religion became a matter of vital importance for the Republican intelligence services operating in Moroccan territory. The possible influence that these countries could exert within the protectorate and that could be contrary to Spanish interests led to the creation of a secret service, first, and then to the creation of an intelligence service in Cairo, where reports on any suspicious activity in this regard could be sent.
