Abstract

This end of degree project examines the evolution of concert etiquette in the 19th century, paying special attention to its social, spatial and cultural dimensions. The study analyses the transformation of musical spaces, from aristocratic salons to public concerts and grand opera houses, to demonstrate how music became a vehicle for social representation, moral discipline and cultural distinction.
