LABOUR MARKET CHALLENGES FOR YOUNG GRADUATES

Abstract

This thesis discusses the unemployment phenomena revolving around young graduates in Spain and the challenges they face when it¿s time to jump into the workforce. Despite the increasing rate of high education and skilled population, youth unemployment remains elevated, much so compared to its European peers, where Spain has the lowest rates of employment. To study this paradox, it is of importance to determine Spanish cyclical and structural unemployment, driven by economic instability and labour market rigidities, how the issue is caused by the diverse types of mismatches in the social dialogue in between our key agents; government, employers, and workers. And what policies must be taken to address these market challenges. Ultimately, this research inquires to provide an understanding of the unique challenges faced by the Spanish youth and show that the answer is within a fluent symbiosis in the social dialogue.
