Abstract
Characeans are an important group of aquatic macrophytes in the Donana National Park. In this paper, we study the distribution of their gyrogonites in different environments of this protected area (temporary ponds, springs, streams, banks of the Guadalquivir River, etc.), relating it to both physico-chemical variables and the texture and mineralogy of the sediment. A review of the geological record of this group in different cores composed of Pleistocene and Holocene sediments is carried out.
