Abstract

This End of Degree project examines how the military dicatorships in Argentina (1976-1983) and Chile (1973-1990) evolved from state repression to state terrorism, arguing that the key mecanismo behind the shift was the ideological construction of the "subversion" concept. This label was created in order to justify the deliberate violence used by both regimes not only against armed opposition, but against lawyers, teachers, students and trade unionists, denying them any protection.
