THE ALHAMBRA IN GRANADA: BALANCING HERITAGE CONSERVATION AND CULTURAL TOURISM

Abstract

This study analyzes the conservation of the Alhambra in Granada as a site of cultural interest and its balance with tourist activity. The main objective is to identify the factors that allow tourism and preservation to coexist, through a theoretical review and a SWOT analysis, supported by the ART-RISK tool, which assesses environmental and structural risks. The results show a medium level of vulnerability for the monument, conditioned by tourist pressure and climate change, which requires sustainable strategies based on technological innovation and institutional coordination. The study concludes that, although the current management model maintains a prudent balance between conservation and tourism, its future sustainability will depend on continuous adaptation, preventive management, and the involvement of the local community.
