A specific con-tent analysis protocol has been designed and appliedto a sample of 729 journal articles, of which N=360were focused on journalism, to observe the objectsof study in this field, the modalities of research andthe research techniques applied. The results showthat even though empirical research in journalismstudies is in a consolidation stage, mainly focused oncontent studies of the daily press, it is still far from adiversity of objects of study and from a methodolo-gical pluralism.engAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internacionalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ournalism; meta-research; Spain; peer-reviewed journals; research techniques; objects of studyJournalism research: a dominant field of communication research in Spain.
