Ítem Business Incubators and Survival of Startups in Times of COVID-19(MDPI - Publisher of Open Access Journals, 2022-02-13) De Esteban Escobar, Débora; De Pablos Heredero, Carmen; Montes Botella, José Luis; Blanco Jiménez, Francisco JoséThis research seeks to understand the situation that entrepreneurs have experienced during COVID-19 and the impact that this has caused on the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The question is whether business incubators as facilitating institutions of entrepreneurship have been determinants for the survival of startups. The study was conducted using a statistical methodology of analysis based on the application of structural equations modeling (SEM) on a theoretical framework built and validated empirically in a representative sample of entrepreneurs from the Community of Madrid (Spain). The results obtained show that the different tools, actions, advice, and services offered by the business incubators, during confinement to the present, have been key to the survival of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, which in turn promotes the advancement of the productive industry of our country.Ítem Impact of emotional intelligence on the success of startups in business incubators(Frontiers Media, 2025-03-14) De Esteban Escobar, Débora; De Pablos Heredero, Carmen; Montes Botella, José Luis; Blanco Jiménez, Francisco JoséThis research investigates the impact of business incubators’ training and support initiatives on emotional intelligence in entrepreneurship and how this subsequently affects the success of incubated startups. The study proposes and tests four hypotheses using a structural equation model (SEM) and data collected from October 2023 to February 2024. The findings indicate the following: First, business incubator training programmes significantly enhance entrepreneurs’ emotional intelligence. Second, psychological support services help entrepreneurs overcome challenges and maintain a positive mindset. Third, incubators provide a supportive environment that fosters entrepreneurs’ confidence, contributing to business success. By elucidating the relationship between incubator activities, emotional intelligence development, and entrepreneurial success, this study can inform the design of more effective business incubator programmes and the development of policies prioritising entrepreneurs’ emotional growth, strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem.Ítem Implications of Digitalization on the Persistence of Startups(MDPI - Publisher of Open Access Journals, 2024-08-05) De Esteban Escobar, Débora; De Pablos Heredero, Carmen; Montes Botella, José Luis; Blanco Jiménez, Francisco JoséDigitalization is a transformative phenomenon catalyzing innovative paradigms and operational methodologies within the realm of business, with a pronounced impact on nascent enterprises, notably startups. The aim of this paper is to ascertain the influence of digitalization and the effects of the different sociodemographic variables, both internal and environmental, as key driving elements in the probability of a company’s success and as indicators of business persistence and growth. Taking a representative sample of entrepreneurs from the Community of Madrid, Spain, a statistical structural equation model (SEM) is built. The results show the importance that the degree of adaptation of the startup to digitization acquires in persistence, the effort to generate inter-entrepreneurship within the company, the preparation of the promoting team, their work skills, good practices, and the influence of environmental variables. This study contributes to dispelling the great uncertainty that afflicts entrepreneurs and making them understand the importance of innovation, training, and continuous updating, expansion, and renewal of knowledge and especially the value of learning about applications of new technologies, the transformation of processes within a business model, and the correct adaptation to an environment that is constantly changing.Ítem Regional house price convergence in Spain during the housing boom(Sage Journals, 2016) Blanco Jiménez, Francisco José; Martín Barroso, Víctor; Vázquez Vicente, GuillermoThe aim of this paper is to identify convergence clubs in house prices among Spanish regions over the period 1995:Q1 to 2007:Q4 and to investigate which factors are responsible for club formation. Employing a novel regression-based convergence test proposed by Phillips and Sul (2007) we find that regional house prices do not converge to a common trend, which confirms the existence of some degree of segmentation in the Spanish housing market. The research results support the existence of convergence clubs, indicating that Spanish regions form four separate groups that converge to different house price levels. Results of an ordered logit model suggest that differences in population growth, size of the rental market, initial house supply and geographical situation have played a crucial role in determining club membershipÍtem Sustainable Tourism, Economic Growth and Employment. The Case of the Wine Routes of Spain(MDPI, 2021-06-25) Vázquez Vicente, Guillermo; Martín Barroso, Víctor; Blanco Jiménez, Francisco JoséTourism has become a priority in national and regional development policies and is considered a source of economic growth, particularly in rural areas. Nowadays, wine tourism is an important form of tourism and has become a local development tool for rural areas. Regional tourism development studies based on wine tourism have a long history in several countries such as the US and Australia, but are more recent in Europe. Although Spain is a leading country in the tourism industry, with an enormous wine-growing tradition, the literature examining the economic impact of wine tourism in Spanish economy is scarce. In an attempt to fill this gap, the main objective of this paper is to analyze the impact of wine tourism on economic growth and employment in Spain. More specifically, by applying panel data techniques, we study the economic impact of tourism in nine Spanish wine routes in the period from 2008 to 2018. Our results suggest that tourism in these wine routes had a positive effect on economic growth. However, we do not find clear evidence of a positive effect on employment generation.
