Ítem Business Incubators and Survival of Startups in Times of COVID-19(MDPI - Publisher of Open Access Journals, 2022-02-13) De Esteban Escobar, Débora; De Pablos Heredero, Carmen; Montes Botella, José Luis; Blanco Jiménez, Francisco JoséThis research seeks to understand the situation that entrepreneurs have experienced during COVID-19 and the impact that this has caused on the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The question is whether business incubators as facilitating institutions of entrepreneurship have been determinants for the survival of startups. The study was conducted using a statistical methodology of analysis based on the application of structural equations modeling (SEM) on a theoretical framework built and validated empirically in a representative sample of entrepreneurs from the Community of Madrid (Spain). The results obtained show that the different tools, actions, advice, and services offered by the business incubators, during confinement to the present, have been key to the survival of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, which in turn promotes the advancement of the productive industry of our country.Ítem Impact of emotional intelligence on the success of startups in business incubators(Frontiers Media, 2025-03-14) De Esteban Escobar, Débora; De Pablos Heredero, Carmen; Montes Botella, José Luis; Blanco Jiménez, Francisco JoséThis research investigates the impact of business incubators’ training and support initiatives on emotional intelligence in entrepreneurship and how this subsequently affects the success of incubated startups. The study proposes and tests four hypotheses using a structural equation model (SEM) and data collected from October 2023 to February 2024. The findings indicate the following: First, business incubator training programmes significantly enhance entrepreneurs’ emotional intelligence. Second, psychological support services help entrepreneurs overcome challenges and maintain a positive mindset. Third, incubators provide a supportive environment that fosters entrepreneurs’ confidence, contributing to business success. By elucidating the relationship between incubator activities, emotional intelligence development, and entrepreneurial success, this study can inform the design of more effective business incubator programmes and the development of policies prioritising entrepreneurs’ emotional growth, strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem.Ítem Implications of Digitalization on the Persistence of Startups(MDPI - Publisher of Open Access Journals, 2024-08-05) De Esteban Escobar, Débora; De Pablos Heredero, Carmen; Montes Botella, José Luis; Blanco Jiménez, Francisco JoséDigitalization is a transformative phenomenon catalyzing innovative paradigms and operational methodologies within the realm of business, with a pronounced impact on nascent enterprises, notably startups. The aim of this paper is to ascertain the influence of digitalization and the effects of the different sociodemographic variables, both internal and environmental, as key driving elements in the probability of a company’s success and as indicators of business persistence and growth. Taking a representative sample of entrepreneurs from the Community of Madrid, Spain, a statistical structural equation model (SEM) is built. The results show the importance that the degree of adaptation of the startup to digitization acquires in persistence, the effort to generate inter-entrepreneurship within the company, the preparation of the promoting team, their work skills, good practices, and the influence of environmental variables. This study contributes to dispelling the great uncertainty that afflicts entrepreneurs and making them understand the importance of innovation, training, and continuous updating, expansion, and renewal of knowledge and especially the value of learning about applications of new technologies, the transformation of processes within a business model, and the correct adaptation to an environment that is constantly changing.Ítem The Impact of Customer Relationship Management Systems on Dynamic Capabilities at Firms: An Application to the Banking Industry(IGI Global Scientific Publishing, 2021-01-01) Gallego Gómez, Cristina; De Pablos Heredero, Carmen; Montes Botella, José LuisThe banking industry has been forced to restructure its processes to get adapted to a more technological environment as a consequence of the changes experienced in the market. Academic literature has paid special attention to the most critical relationship at firms, customers. Customer relationship management (CRM) offers good opportunities to increase efficiencies in this relationship. For this reason, this research analyses to what extent the implementation of CRM systems in the banking industry has offered good results in terms of dynamic capabilities. For that, some dynamic capabilities have been identified after CRMs implementation process has taken place. A theoretical model has been built and empirically validated by means of a representative sample of banking firms applying structural equation model analysis (SEM). Results show how firms, by properly implementing CRM systems, can reach dynamic capabilities.
