THE INTERRELATIONS BETWEEN SELF-ESTEEM AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN STUDENTS OF PRIMARY EDUCATION
(Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, 2024-06-24) Miguel Pinar, Ainhoa
This research investigates about the concepts of self-esteem and academic performance, and how both of them are connected to one another. Despite many authors studying the topic, this correlation is still unknown to an extent. Utilizing data from official sites such as Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) report or Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and linking it to different studies made by other authors such as Martínez (2010), Castrillo (2020) or Figueroa (2014), the study presents a clear picture of the relationship between self-esteem and academic performance of students of primary education. To achieve this objective, the research enquires on the concept of self-esteem, self-concept, self-assesment, school failure, academic performance and academic achievement, mentioning the variables that affect the academic achievements. Secondly, it will cross quantitative primary data with the studies performed by the scholars in order to unravel the interrelations between the students¿ self-esteem and their academic performance at the level of primary education. Eventually, it proposes a survey to measure the students¿ self-esteem in primary education, as a tool to delve in future research lines.
