Ítem Coverage and Throughput Improvement in Multihop Relaying in Wimax Network(Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, 2010-06) Nova, WorravitIEEE 802.16j is an amendment to the IEEE 802.16 broadband wireless access standard to enable the operation of multi-hop relay stations (RS). It aims to enhance the coverage, per user throughput and system capacity of IEEE 802.16e. Compared with base station (BS), RS does not need a wire-line backhaul and has much lower hardware complexity. Using RSs can significantly reduce the deployment cost of the system. This thesis introduces an approach towards the integration of relaying or multihop schemes in IEEE 802.16j networks. In a multi-hop relay network, the users send their data to the base station via a relay station or with direct communication to the base station. These relay stations can either be the nomadic, fixed (as in this thesis) at specific location or users¿ mobile station (mobile relay station). The main objective of this thesis is to compare the difference in two different network architectures, PMP mode and RS-transparent mode in terms of network capacity and performance by simulating in different software. The results show that under certain conditions the capacity and throughput of the system has been increased in RS-transparent mode over PMP mode with the introduction of the relay station in to base station zone.
