Abstract. The patterns of use and consumption of media information of adolescents undergo frequent changes due to the constant technological evolution. This work, fruit of the REDCON project, seeks to know the use and consumption of internet, social networks and online messaging services of adolescents in the Community of Madrid, as well as their perception of risks, parental control and access to news. Through four focus groups, with children between 13 and 17 years old, a multitasking use of the internet, social networks and messaging services has been observed, in short consultation periods spread over the day, with parental control at the beginning of adolescence that is diluted when they grow up. There is an incidental consumption of news, together with a low assessment of media credibility and a lack of self-regulation by young people in the use of the internet and mobile devices.Ítem PRO-Mueve Relaciones Sanas – A Gender-Based Violence Prevention Program for Adolescents: Assessment of Its Efficacy in the First Year of Intervention(Frontiers in Psychology, 2022-01-03) Velasco Furlong, Lilian; Thomas Currás, Helena; Pastor Ruiz, Yolanda; Arcos Rodriguez, AroaPRO-Mueve Relaciones Sanas (PRO-Mote Healthy Relationships) is a gender-based violence and dating violence prevention program targeted at adolescents. The program has been designed to be implemented during three consecutive courses [from the first to third year of Spanish mandatory secondary education (ESO)] in 8 annual sessions, imparted by university students who have been previously trained and supervised by university professors. The present study evaluates the effects of the program after the first year of implementation through a quasi-experimental design (Intervention Group N = 181; Quasi-control group N = 62; Mage = 12.11; SDage = 0.57; 54.7% girls) and assesses whether there are gender differences in the outcomes. The results obtained evidenced a significant reduction in benevolent sexism in the intervention group compared to the quasi-control group. Regarding hostile sexism, it was found to increase significantly in the quasi-control group, while it remained stable in the intervention group. Thus, there were significant differences between both groups after the intervention. Likewise, romantic love myths were found to decrease significantly, and knowledge about gender-based violence increased significantly in the intervention group between the two time points assessed, although there were no significant differences with the quasi-control group. No gender differences in the outcomes of the program were observed. The obtained results supported the efficacy of the program during the first year of intervention in the first course of the ESO and laid the foundation for the following phases of intervention.Ítem Problematic internet use: the preference for online social interaction and the motives for using the Internet as a mediating factor(Universidad de Navarra, 2022-05-01) López de Ayala López, Maria Cruz; Catalina-García, Beatriz; Pastor Ruiz, YolandaThe preference for online social interaction has been seen as an antecedent for problematic use of the Internet and social networks, which is associated with problems of social anxiety and a lack of social skills. Based on a survey with a representative sample of 524 students in Compulsory Secondary Education (aged 12-14) in the Autonomous Region of Madrid (Spain), the role of motives of use as a factor that explains the problematic use of the Internet has been analysed as a mediating component between such problematic use and the preference for online social interaction. The results show that only when social networks are used to expand relationships and as a form of self-expression are there negative consequences for the individual, but not when such networks are used to maintain close relationships. Finally, is has been observed that such motives, which moderately predict problematic use, only slightly explain in part the relationship between the preference for online social interaction and problematic use. Therefore, further research is needed to investigate other motives for use that mediate this association, as well as the connection between the motive to expand social relationships together with self-expression, and other pre-existing personality factors that might lead to problematic use of the Internet and social networks.
