Over the years, there have been different views on the roles and responsibilities of companies in society. Some have argued that companies should focus on carrying out their main activities in order to maximize profits (Levitt, 1958), while some others believe the broader responsibilities of businesses towards society (Carroll, 1979; Epstein, 1987; McGuire, 1963). In the last few decades, globalization, along with several technological advances that have accelerated the speed of the information flow, has brought awareness of how companies run their business activities. Consumers have significantly risen their demands, forcing corporations to assume bigger responsibilities while making a correct use of their power in order to become active leaders of change.es
