Resumen
The objective of this thesis is to analyze the European federalist project and its possible influence on the development of the European Union. The future of the institution is still an open debate in which immense possibilities are raised regarding its evolution.
Federalism joins the debate on the European project to face growing globalization and its consequences. The global impact of the two hegemonic powers, China and the United States, along with other large transnational actors, puts European nations on alert and reveals the need to oppose a powerful common European front.
This thesis proposes a Europe in which, by means of a European federalism, imbricated in its institutions -European Union-can influence globally what each state alone could not achieve. Therefore, the discourse of the nation-state at the hands of Eurosceptics and populists loses strength and reason for being.
In addition, it is intended to analyze the idea of a common European identity posed by federalism: a greater union both at a political, economic and sociocultural level, a Europe without barriers, with greater political influence at a global and regional level and that, as the cradle of democracy and its values, exemplifies the need to evolve in fundamental rights and freedoms.
