Resumen

This study explores how new technologies and innovations implemented at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, contributed to the organisation of the event. In the face of the health crisis, advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, 5G and drones were introduced to ensure the hosting of the event and the safety of all involved. The paper analyses these innovations in comparison to previous sporting events and highlights their impact on logistics, spectator experience and athlete performance. It also examines the benefits in terms of accessibility and sustainability, as well as the challenges of implementation in such a complicated context. It concludes by assessing the success of these technologies and how they could be applied in future sporting events, providing insight into the technological transformation in sport and its implications for the organisation of large-scale international competitions in a changing context.
