"TRAVERSING GRIEF" UNDERSTANDING CHILDHOOD BEREAVEMENT IN THE SCHOOL SETTING

Resumen
Grief is a universal experience that affects individuals of all ages. Childhood bereavement presents unique challenges, especially within the school environment, where support systems and educational frameworks can significantly influence the coping mechanisms and emotional resilience of young students. This study explores childhood grief in the school setting, emphasizing the trauma associated with the loss of a parent, the sample consisted of 16 participants: 2 widowers, 4 adults that suffered from the loss of a parental figure during childhood, and 10 teachers. Through a descriptive quantitative and qualitative approach, the research examines the perspectives of those affected by the situation to develop a comprehensive understanding of how schools can better support grieving students. The results revealed a need for proper training for teachers to handle these situations effectively, as they are currently not adequately prepared, admitting to relied on personal experience. The study underscores the necessity of implementing preventive measures and structured programs in schools to adequately support grieving students.
