THE IMPORTANCE OF CULTURAL EVENTS SUCH AS FILM FESTIVALS FOR SOCIETY. THE INTERNATIONAL SAN SEBASTIAN FILM FESTIVAL AS A CASE STUDY

Abstract

Cultural events are considered events designed for the entertainment and enjoyment of an audience. They are events of certain importance related to some branch of art, culture or values. Cultural events are today one of the most dynamic and interesting artistic manifestations of the contemporary cultural scene. In addition to promoting culture and educating the public, they have a significant economic impact on local businesses and attract a large number of tourists and industry professionals to the cities where they are held. In this research paper we will analyze how cultural events, more specifically film festivals, can help not only to entertain, nurture or strengthen the cultural identity of a society, but also to increase the profits of local entrepreneurs through increasing the average tourist spending and promoting the city as a tourist destination.
