Abstract
Film tourism emerged as a significant form of cultural tourism that combines an
interest in film destinations and a desire to explore new geographies. In recent decades,
the phenomenon has experienced significant growth due to the entertainment industry and
social networks. This study examines the background, features, advantages and
disadvantages, and social and economic effects of film tourism. Examined are the
characteristics, motives, and promotional strategies of the movie tourist, with a focus on
the role of film commissions and social media. Furthermore, iconic destinations and
attractions related to film tourism are identified. Finally, a case study about ¿Game of
Thrones¿ is presented, examining the show's locations and the effect they have on local
tourism.
