The acquisition of literacy skills is essential in children's academic development. However, today, it is increasingly challenging for children to acquire these skills, especially in a second language. Therefore, the implementation of active methodologies becomes crucial in teaching literacy. This work explores the meaning and importance of phonetics and phonology in language acquisition and learning, with a particular focus on teaching English literacy to primary school children. The acquisition of literacy skills is analyzed and the Jolly Phonics methodology is presented as an effective tool for this purpose. Jolly Phonics is a methodology that is based on the multisensory and systematic teaching of the sounds of English, facilitating learning through dynamic and attractive activities. Throughout the work, it will be demonstrated how to teach a specific phoneme using this methodology, highlighting its benefits for both neurotypical children and those with special educational needs. The versatility and adaptability of Jolly Phonics makes this approach a favorable option for diverse learning in the classroom, promoting a solid foundation in literacy from an early age.
