dc.description.abstract | This End of Degree Project provides a comprehensive examination of the historical, technological, and sociopolitical factors shaping the global transition towards a cashless society. It traces the evolution of money and payment systems, from primitive barter to modern digital transactions, and analyzes the global tendencies and patterns observed in the shift towards a cashless society. The project also investigates the influential role of big banks and financial institutions in driving this transition, exploring theories of hegemony and interpellation that suggest they are deliberately shaping public perceptions. Furthermore, it examines the enabling technologies, particularly microchips, that have facilitated the cashless transition, while also exploring the complex ethical debates surrounding privacy, security, and equity. The project concludes by assessing the broader implications of a cashless society, including the impact on national security and modern warfare, and provides insights to inform policymaking and guide ethical considerations. | |
