Abstract

Nayib Bukele's rise into power has created new political debates in what it seems a new way to fight gang violence in Latin America. The sacrifice of democratic values and its widespread popular support divides public opinion between the protection of democratic principles and the need for strong governance. What are the implications of acknowledging such a leader from within the international community?
