Liberal democracy, as a project of modernity, is a concept in constant mutation due to the influences received from a society subjected to cultural, social, institutional and economic changes, which cause liberal democracy to be in a permanent crisis. Within this context of crisis, in this article we vindicate the validity of participatory and deliberative democracy as an element of regeneration of the democratic project of modernity, arguing its capacity to reconcile with the dominant paradigm of economic rationality, presenting the local sphere as the most appropriate for, through the implementation of local governance processes, making this reconciliation effective.es
