Abstract
The aim of this article is to justify the theologi- cal structure that Hannah Arendt and Walter Benjamin grant to history from the use of the memory and the hermeneutic mo- tivation. The article explores the existing parallelism between both authors in three steps: the hermeneutic crisis of the twen- tieth century, the review and deconstruction of progress and of the modern concept of history and the recovery of narrative as an exercise of historical meaning. The article shows that in both authors the theological structure turns narrative into an exercise of salvation that does not point out to a transcendent dimension notwithstanding
