Histopathological study of abnormal mortalities of cockle (Cerastoderma edule) in Carril (Galicia, NW Spain)

Abstract

In 1999, abnormal mortalities of cockle (Cerastoderma edule) were reported in Galicia (NW Spain). We found several potentially pathogenic organisms and cellular disorders, including neoplasic cells with a strong lysosomic activity, which could be associated with the reported cockle mortalities.
