Ítem A Bayesian Decision Model for Intelligent Routing in Sensor Networks(3rd International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems, 2006. ISWCS '06, 2006-09) Arroyo-Valles, Rocio; Garcia Marques, Antonio; Vinagre Díaz, Juan José; Cid Sueiro, JesúsIn this paper we propose an efficient energy-aware routing algorithm based on learning patterns. Energy and message importance are considered in a Bayesian model in order to establish intelligent decision rules that make the network economize in crucial resources.Ítem A computational optimization approach to scoliosis brace design – Preliminary results(orthopaedic research society, 2022) Kardash, Kateryna; Rodriguez, Jesus P.; Otaduy, Miguel A.The design of braces for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is a problem that could potentially benefit from computational solutions. There is a broad body of research on simulation of the human spine, including simulation of scoliosis, as well as braces and their effects on the body. Some sparse works leverage these simulation models to evaluate the quality of digital brace designs, but the computational approach to scoliosis brace design remains largely underused.Ítem A Design of Automatic Visualizations for Divide-and-Conquer Algorithms(Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, 2008-07) Velázquez Iturbide, J. Ángel; Pérez Carrasco, Antonio; Urquiza Fuentes, JaimeThe paper addresses the design of program visualizations adequate to represent divide-and-conquer algorithms. Firstly, we present the results of several surveys performed on the visualization of divide-and-conquer algorithms in the literature. Secondly, we make a proposal for three complementary, coordinated views of these algorithms. In summary, they are based an animation of the activation tree, an animation of the data structure, and a sequence of visualizations of the substructures, respectively.Ítem A Directory of Heterogeneous Services(CEUR Workshop proceedings, 2011) Cong, Zijie; Fernández, Alberto; Soto, CarlosThis paper presents a directory of heterogeneous web services, which addresses the issue of service discovery involving heterogeneous description languages such as OWL-S, SAWSDL, WSDL and plain text. Service descriptions are mapped into a unified description model, which captures various important elements in different service description approaches. Our directory then performs service registration, automatic discovery and manual browsing utilizing these unified models. A preliminary evaluation shows a satisfying result.Ítem A High-Throughput Deployable Antenna based on Not-Aligned Reflectarray Panels(2024 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and ITNC-USNC-URSI Radio Science Metting, 2024-07-19) Imaz Lueje, Borja; Martinez-de-Rioja, Daniel; Rodríguez Pino, Marcos; Arrebola Baena, ManuelThis contribution describes a deployable large multi-faceted reflectarray to be embarked in different aerospace vehicles. The structure comprises several low-profile panels that are assembled to follow an equivalent parabolic reflector. An example of this antenna concept is designed to operate in Ka-band and dual-linear polarization. It provides high-gain, low-losses, and a bandwidth significantly higher than the one achieved with a conventional deployable reflectarray. Therefore, the proposed antenna exhibits high-throughput performance with integrability with the vehicle platform. Such features are of particular interest for space missions and some terrestrial communications.Ítem A Learning Algorithm for Energy-Efficient Routing of Prioritized Messages in Wireless Sensor Networks(2007-10-01T08:52:49Z) Arroyo-Valles, Rocio; Garcia Marques, Antonio; Cid Sueiro, JesúsEnergy is a valuable resource in wireless sensor networks since it constitutes a limiting factor for the network lifetime. In order to make an efficient use of its own energy resources, each node in the network should be aware of the energy resources at other nodes, which can be relevant to the success of their routing decisions. The proposal of this paper is twofold:(i)to design a routing algorithm based on learning patterns using geographic information and (ii) to focus on the cut down in energy consumption. We show that by exploiting local information from the signals detected at each node, sensor nodes can learn to route messages in order to improve the communication performance of the overall network and minimize the need of coordination or signalling protocols among nodes. Moreover, if messages are prioritized by some importance parameter, the overall importance of the successfully transmitted messages can be drastically improved. Experimental results highlight that our algorithm achieves a good performance in terms of successful delivery rate and maximizes the importance of the received messages.Ítem A longa maturação da ideia de Governo Interior e o alvorecer constitucional - The long maturation of Interior Government idea and the constitutional dawn.(2022-09-22) Ezquerra Revilla, Ignacio Javier(PT) A consolidação do Estado Liberal no século XIX foi considerada como a eclosão do “Estado Administrativo”. (EN) The consolidation of the Liberal State in the nineteenth century was considered as the outbreak of the “Administrative State”. For Luca Mannori, such a state was theoretically characterized by very concrete dates: from 1892, the date of the publication of Maurice Hariou´s Precis de droit public et administratif -which successive issues were followed and read very carefully in the spanish political science faculties until well entered the decade of 1970- to 1901, when it was published Principi di diritto administrativo of Santi Romano. Part of the process that took place then was the legitimation of such a predominant character through its historical construction, one more expression of what Hobsbawm and Ranger referred to as the “invention of tradition”. However, if it is true that the new state needed complementary charismatic and legitimizing foundations that could only came from the past, the fact is that such a predominant administrative dimension was the result of a long historical evolution. Much of it corresponded to the idea of “Interior Government”, identified with a direct and unhindered intervention by the public authority in that space that, in the new regime, gathered the former attributions of the king in an oeconomic sense. The purpose of this communication is to address briefly the evolution of the meaning of a fully visible term already in Early Modern Age, which in the liberal regime permeated and encompassed the interaction between the poles of the so-called administrative centralization: ministries and provincial institutions.Ítem A Multi-faceted Reflectarray onboard Aerospace Vehicle with Enhanced Bandwidth(Comité Organizador y Científico XXXIX Simposio Nacional de la Unión Científica Internacional de Radio, URSI 2024. Escuela Politécnica de Cuenca. Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, 2024-09-04) Imaz Lueje, Borja; Martinez-de-Rioja del Nido, Daniel; Rodríguez Pino, Marcos; Arrebola Baena, ManuelThis paper presents an electrically large multi-faceted aperture that can be folded and deployed onboard an aerospace vehicle. Following a single-offset configuration, the aperture comprises five low-profile panels assembled edge-to-edge, arranged following a parabolic curvature. The entire antenna structure is designed to generate a directive beam in Ka-band, working in dual-linear polarization. An electromagnetic characterization of this topology has been carried out, compared the results to the performance of an equivalent single facet reflector and a multi-faceted reflectarray composed of nine panels. The five panel multi-faceted structure features a directive pattern stable in-band, and a 1dB-gain bandwidth of 10%, significantly higher than in an equivalent single facet aperture. Compared with the nine-panel structure, it exhibits lower gain bandwidth but higher peak gain, similar beamwidth in-band and easier integrability with the vehicle platform.Ítem A New Method for Single-Step Robust Post-Processing of Flow Color Doppler M-Mode Images Using Support Vector Machines(2009-06-15T10:08:10Z) Conde Pardo, P; Guerrero Curieses, A; Rojo-Álvarez, José Luis; Yotti, R; Requena Carrión, J; Antoranz, José Carlos; Bermejo, JavierIntra-cardiac pressure gradients (ICPG) are usually es timated by post-processing of flow Color Doppler M-mode images (CDMMI) by using a sequence of processing steps. We propose a novel image processing method which gives a single-step approximation of the ICPG image, based on a simple, yet specifically developed, Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm. Our method only requires the SVM estimation of the blood velocity from the CDMMI. Given that ICPG images are obtained by deterministic operators (Euler's momentum equation) on the blood velocity, the ICPG estimation is a simple model that consists of the same coefficients and the operator applied to the Mercer's kernel. A diverse-width Mercer's kernel is proposed, as an alternative to conventional Radial Basis Function kernel. Simulations on a synthetic model and approximations of a real example image, trained with up to 10% of the pixels, show the possibilities of this new single-step postprocessing method.Ítem A new outlook on identification in detailed wage decompositions(2010-01-14T10:25:19Z) Arrazola, María; Hevia, José deSome articles have shown that the conventional Oaxaca¿s wage decomposition methodology poses a serious problem when categorical variables are included: the contribution of each dummy variable to the wage discrimination may vary. This article shows that this problem originates from an inadequate interpretation of the models and of the contributions of dummy variables to discrimination, and that with an adequate interpretation of the model the problem is easily solved. We also show that the proposal made by Gardeazabal and Ugidos (2004) for the solution of this problem, widely employed in empirical literature, contains some important drawbacks.Ítem A New Spread Spectrum Watermarking Method with Self-Synchronization Capabilities(2009-07-30T09:24:49Z) Mora Jiménez, Inma; Navia Vázquez, AngelAmong the many techniques available for information concealment, those based on spread spectrum modulations have proven to yield improved results when robustness against attack is at a premium. In this paper, we propose a new spread spectrum-based watermarking procedure that combines space and frequency marks to provide good robustness properties against both spatial (affine) and transform-based compression attacks, without needing the original image as a reference (blind detection). It provides a mechanism for N-bit concealment and also improves the detection-of-presence process by gathering all watermark energy into a single value (sufficient statistic for detection). The recovery of every single bit is also improved by taking into account the so-called "watermark-print" or "waterprint" instead of looking at a single correlation value. It additionally provides the means to recover synchronization under affine transformations in the blind detection scenario. These characteristics will be analyzed by means of several practical examples.Ítem A parallel evolutionary algorithm for technical market indicators optimization(Natural Computing, 2012-09-28) bodas, Diego; Fernández, Pablo; Hidalgo, José Ignacio; Soltero, Francisco JoséThis paper deals with the optimization of parameters of technical indicators for stock market investment. Price prediction is a problem of great complexity and, usually, some technical indicators are used to predict market trends. The main difficulty in using technical indicators lies in deciding a set of parameter values. We proposed the use of Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEAs) to obtain the best parameter values belonging to a collection of indicators that will help in the buying and selling of shares. The experimental results indicate that our MOEA offers a solution to the problem by obtaining results that improve those obtained through technical indicators with standard parameters. In order to reduce execution time is necessary to parallelize the executions. Parallelization results show that distributing the workload of indicators in multiple processors to improve performance is recommended. This parallelization has been performed taking advantage of the idle time in a corporate technology infrastructure. We have configured a small parallel grid using the students Labs of a Computer Science University College.Ítem A Proposal for Situation-Aware Evacuation Guidance Based on Semantic Technologies(Springer, Cham, 2017-06-23) Billhardt, Holger; Dunkel, Juergen; Fernández, Alberto; Lujak, Marin; Hermoso, Ramón; Ossowski, SaschaSmart Cities require reliable means for managing installations that offer essential services to the citizens. In this paper we focus on the problem of evacuation of smart buildings in case of emergencies. In particular, we present a proposal for an evacuation guidance system that provides individualized evacuation support to people in case of emergencies. The system uses sensor technologies and Complex Event Processing to obtain information about the current situation of a building in each moment. Using semantic Web technologies, this information is merged with static knowledge (special user characteristics, building topology, evacuation knowledge) in order to determine (and dynamically update) the most appropriate individualized evacuation routes for each user.Ítem A Reconfigurable, Wearable, Wireless ECG System(Proceedings of the 29th Annual International Conference of the IEEE EMBS, 2007-08-23) Borromeo, Susana; Rodríguez-Sánchez, María Cristina; Machado, Felipe; Hernandez-Tamames, J.A; Prieta, R de laAbstract:New emerging concepts as wireless hospital, mobile healthcare or wearable telemonitoring require the development of bio-signal acquisition devices to be easily integrated into the clinical routine. In this work, we present a new system for Electrocardiogram (ECG) acquisition and its processing, with wireless transmission on demand (either the complete ECG or only one alarm message, just in case a pathological heart rate detected). Size and power consumption are optimized in order to provide mobility and comfort to the patient. We have designed a modular hardware system and an autonomous platform based on a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) for developing and debugging. The modular approach allows to redesign the system in an easy way. Its adaptation to a new biomedical signal would only need small changes on it. The hardware system is composed of three layers that can be plugged/unplugged: communication layer, processing layer and sensor layer. In addition, we also present a general purpose end-user application developed for mobile phones or Personal Digital Assistant devices (PDAs).Ítem A Scatter Search approach for the Parallel Row Ordering Problem(Springer Nature, 2023-02-23) Martín-Santamaría, Raúl; Colmenar Verdugo, Jose Manuel; Duarte Muñoz, AbrahamIn this work, we present a new approach for the Parallel Row Ordering Problem (PROP), based on the Scatter Search metaheuristic. The PROP focuses on minimizing the total weighted sum of all distances between each pair of facility centers in a linear layout. The proposed method is able to obtain all known optimal values in a fraction of the time required by the previous exact methods for the set of smaller instances, and it outperforms the current state of the art metaheuristic for the set of larger instances, spending a comparable computing time.Ítem A Study of Severe Disruption in an Artificial Economy(2020) Recio, Gustavo; Banzhaf, Wolfgang; White, RogerWe analyze an artificial economy model designed to handle severe non-equilibrium situations. This agent-based model is intended to allow innovation in the form of new technologies, producers and consumers entering (and leaving) the system. Here we examine a disruption of consumption patterns akin to the economic crisis brought about in the real economy through the corona virus and the following Covid-19 pandemic.Ítem A technique for the optimization of the parameters of technical indicators with multi-objective evolutionary algorithms(IEEE, 2012-06-10) Bodas, Diego; Soltero, Francisco José; Fernández, Pablo; Hidalgo, José IgnacioTechnical indicators (TIs) are used to interpret stock market and to predict market trends. The main difficulty in the use of TIs lies in deciding which their optimal parameter values are in each moment, since constant optimal values do not seem to exist. In this work, the use of Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEAs) is proposed to obtain the best values of the parameters in order to help to buy and sell shares. Those parameters are applied in real time and belong to a collection of indicators. Unlike other previous approaches, the necessity of repeating the parameter optimization process each time a new data enters the system is justified, searching for the best adjustment of the parameters (and hence the TIs) in every moment. The Moving Averages Convergence-Divergence (MACD) indicator and the Relative Strength Index (RSI) oscillator have been chosen as TIs, so the MOEAs will provide the best parameters to use them on investment decisions. Experiments compare up to nine different configurations with the Buy & Hold strategy (B & H). The obtained results show that the Multi-Objective technique proposed here can greatly improve the results of the B & H strategy even operating daily. This statement is also demonstrated by comparing the results to those previously presented in the literature.Ítem ACCIDENTAL CUTTING(Di_Mad Fundación Diseño Madrid y la Asociación de Diseñadores de Masdrid, 2015) Iszoro Zak, EvaEn esta publicación se describe el método de patronaje experimental Accidental Cutting, propiedad intelectual de Eva Iszoro, desde sus principios básicos hasta la s fases del proceso.
